Description

Short description
Women’s garment without sleeves, that covers the upper part of the body, buttons up with six buttons at the back. Two laces - miniatures are sewn in front. Elements and techniques of bobbin lacemaking used: cloth stitch with outer pins and fillings - tally flowers, plaits, plaits with picots, tallies. Miniatures are connected with a decorative pattern. The bodice is outlined with continuous lace in plaits with picots and tallies. It has straps with a pattern of bobbin eyelets.

Original use
The bodice was used as an item of women’s clothing, which was only worn for special occasions. It is from family legacy of Sonja Koder. According to her testimony, the described object was owned by Angela Šinkovec, who was not married and worked in a shoe shop called “Pr Majnc”.
Present use
The described object is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is physical evidence of the centuries-old bobbin lace tradition and knowledge of bobbin lace making in Idrija. It is a part of the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum exhibition Idrija Lace, History Written in Thread, which tells the story of the handmade, Idrija bobbin lace. More similar patterns preserved in the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum can be used for other types of promotion.
