Description

Short description
The christening shirt is completely made using the bobbin lacemaking technique. Regarding the method of lacemaking, this is a completed type of bobbin tape lace. Regarding the typology, this is a tape lace with subsequently made fillings. Elements and techniques of bobbin lacemaking used: broad tape with inner pins, horseshoes, designing a motif in a technique of cloth stitch with inner pins; fillings: plaited net, tally. The prevailing motif in it is floral.

Original use
The christening shirt was used as a clothing piece (christening garment). The lace was already exhibited in the permanent exhibition “Bobbin Lace” in the Idrija Municipal Museum between 1970 and 2007.
Present use
The described lace is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is physical evidence of the centuries-old bobbin lace tradition and knowledge of bobbin lace making in Idrija. It is a part of the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum. In 2013, the described lace was used at the reception of Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Holy See, it was used in 2014 in the Carsic House in Repen and in the Parenzana Museum in Izola within the exhibition “Idrija Lace - timeless bobbin lace masterpiece”. More similar patterns preserved in the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum can be used for other types of promotion.
