Original use
The baby cap was used as an item of clothing (for special occasions). It was made from the pattern of the Idrija pattern sketcher Albin Mažgon. The aforementioned pattern designer belongs among the important, self-taught, talented domestic designers, and he started this business due to his family’s need to survive in the 1930s. His tracing papers were found in an old, private suitcase, which raised a lot of questions about pattern designing and the development of Idrija lace in the period between the wars. A part of the tracing papers and the lace made using them were presented in a temporary exhibition Stari kovček razkriva, Albin Mažgon in njegove čipke (An old suitcase reveals, Albin Mažgon and his lace) in the Idrija Municipal Museum, 20/06 – 31/08/2014.
Present use
The described lace is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is physical evidence of the centuries-old bobbin lace tradition and knowledge of bobbin lace making in Idrija. It is a part of the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum. The bobbin lace baby cap was exhibited in 2014, at a temporary exhibition “An old suitcase reveals, Albin Mažgon and his lace” in the Nikolaj Pirnat exhibition space of the Idrija Municipal Museum. More similar patterns preserved in the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum can be used for other types of promotion.
