Original use
From the painted tracing paper, the lacemakers could see which techniques were intended for the lacemaking. Furthermore, lacemakers still had a choice in interpreting the painted pattern (selection of a technique, adjustment to their own taste and knowledge) in materialisation of bobbin lace. The pattern designer Ana Troha was active at the Idrija Lacemaking School between the years 1905–1945. Before that, she attended the Central Lacemaking Course in Vienna. During the time of her teaching, she was constantly designing patterns, and was responsible for the reproduction of tracing papers during the Italian period.
Present use
The tracing paper is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is physical evidence of the centuries-old bobbin lace tradition and knowledge of bobbin lace making in Idrija. It is a part of the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum exhibition Idrija Lace, History Written in Thread, which tells the story of the handmade, Idrija bobbin lace. More similar patterns preserved in the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum can be used for other types of promotion.
