Description

Short description
The tracing paper is yellow with a purple pattern line. It is hand painted and stained with glue. There is a stamp of Idrija Lacemaking School on the reverse. The pattern is marked with a serial no. 0117, which is subsequently written. This is an example of a pattern of non-continuous metre lace with typical Idrija motif of “pogačka”.

Original use
From the painted tracing paper, the lacemakers could see which techniques were intended for the lacemaking. Furthermore, lacemakers still had a choice in interpreting the painted pattern (selection of a technique, adjustment to their own taste and knowledge) in materialisation of bobbin lace. In this case, the Idrija Lacemaking School painted the pattern and gave it to the lacemakers for production. During the time of the operation of the Central Lacemaking Course in Vienna (1879–1907), the Idrija Lacemaking School also received patterns from the Special Drawing Studio, which was operating within the aforementioned course. Despite numerous records of intensive pattern painting by the Ferjančič family (Ivana and Antonija), works with their signatures were not preserved.
Present use
The tracing paper is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is physical evidence of the centuries-old bobbin lace tradition and knowledge of bobbin lace making in Idrija. It is a part of the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum. More similar patterns, preserved in the lace collection, can be used for other types of promotion.
