Original use
The described sales catalogue of lace was used by the Franz Lapajne company (1875–1945). Franz Lapajne was Štefan and Karolina Lapanje’s nephew, who opened the first regular lace shop Idrija, back in 1860. The company succeeded with their products on the challenging market of western and northern European countries. The bond between the shop and the clients were sales catalogues with the examples of bobbin lace. The companies ordered the lace sold under the brand name “Idrija Lace”, by mail, using catalogue numbers. The Franz Lapajne company needed lacemakers who knew how to quickly produce several types of quality lace, including more complex types of lace. The next owner of the catalogue was the company Čipka Idrija (Idrija Lace).
Present use
The sales catalogue is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is physical evidence of the centuries-old bobbin lace tradition and knowledge of bobbin lace making in Idrija. It is a part of the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum. The catalogue is available to the general public in a digitised form on the website of the Idrija Municipal Museum. More similar catalogue preserved in the aforementioned lace collection can be used for other types of promotion.
