Description

Short description
Regarding the method of lacemaking, this is a completed type of bobbin tape lace. Regarding the typology, this is band lace with fillings. Elements and techniques of bobbin lacemaking used: crescents with outer and inner pins along the outer edge, designing the motif in a broad tape technique with outer and inner pins, crescents with outer pins; fillings: tally flowers, tally, plaits, plaited flowers in picots, plaited flower leaves with picots. Lace is pinned in dominant garland motifs.

Original use
The described object is used an independent (standalone) product. It was made at the time of the open competition, which was held in 2001, within the traditional Lace Festival in Idrija. The competition’s theme was “Lace in the memory of Ivana Ferjančič”. The described lace won the first prize in the aforementioned competition. The wining lace received an award, which also meant a redemption. After the Administrative Board of the Lace Festival bought the lace, it was handed over for protection to the Idrija Municipal Museum.
Present use
The described lace is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is physical evidence of the centuries-old bobbin lace tradition and knowledge of bobbin lace making in Idrija. It is a part of the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum. In 2013, the described lace was used at the reception of Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia Holy See, it was used in 2014 in the Carsic House in Repen and in the Parenzana Museum in Izola within the exhibition “Idrija Lace - timeless bobbin lace masterpiece”. More similar patterns preserved in the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum can be used for other types of promotion.
