Original use
The described lace was used as a part of decorative trimmings (especially household textiles). The 1860s and the 1870s were the most important period for the establishment of Idrija lace. At that time, Idrija lace got its recognisable image; the generally established method of lacemaking became the so-called Broad Tape or the stitch for production for which seven pairs of bobbins were used. The described object is a metre lace, for which cyclically repeated basic motif (in this case mushrooms) was typical.
Present use
The described lace is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is physical evidence of the centuries-old bobbin lace tradition and knowledge of bobbin lace making in Idrija. It is a part of the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum exhibition Idrija Lace, History Written in Thread, which tells the story of the handmade, Idrija bobbin lace. More similar patterns preserved in the lace collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum can be used for other types of promotion.
