It is placed among point ground lace. It belongs to the continuous metre lace. The described object is made from 23 pairs of bobbins and two contour (thickened) threads. The lace has a basic tulle net on the inside. "Honeycomb" net is circled with a contour thread. Outer pins are along the outer edge, inner pins are along the inner edge; the inner edge is accentuated with a thickened thread. Original use
The described point ground lace is a typical example of decorative trimming of female head coverings. Unlike some other older examples of Idrija lace, point ground lace motifs have a known domestic name. Cyclical repetition of a basic motif was typical for point ground lace.
Present use
The lace is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is physical evidence of the centuries-old bobbin lace tradition and knowledge of bobbin lace making in Idrija. It is a part of the lace collection of Idrija Municipal Museum. The latter keeps a total of 25 pieces of point ground lace which have been produced with this bobbin lace making technique. The described object has great value, especially so, because it is made with a demanding bobbin making technique. General knowledge of their production has not been preserved among the lacemakers, except among the teachers of the Idrija Lace-making School. The point ground lace can be used for temporary museum exhibitions or for other types of promotions.
Original location
