Original use
The book about history of the Idrija Mercury Mine was published in 1960, when the technical renovation of the Mine, which started in 1945, was mostly complete. During that time they reorganised the entire production process in the pit, the transportation and sorting, and started building new rotary furnaces for ore smelting. In addition to the aforementioned, the book presents the more than a century long economic exploitation of the Idrija Mine. The author’s focus was especially on the managers, the state and various political systems, which were changing in the Idrija Mine. The trading with mercury is also described in the book. The constantly difficult social situations of the Idrija miners were the focal point of the description.
Present use
The book is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is kept in the collection of library material (in analogue and digital form) and is available for borrowing.
