Short description
This is the reproduction of a book titled Beschreibung des Quecksilber-Bergwerks zu Idria in Mittel-Kräyn, which is written in German language. It has a hard cover and 76 pages and also three unnumbered introductory pages. The introductions of individual chapters have decorated initial letters and graphics with different motifs from nature.

Original use
Johann Jacob Ferber (1743‒1790) was a renowned mineralogist. His book describes the operation of Idrija Mercury Mine in the 18th century as experienced by the author himself. The natural landmarks of Idrija are described in the introduction of the book. The next chapters present the way of trading with mercury and all related activities, such as ore excavation and ore smelting, purifying and packing of mercury and presentation of prices on the market, especially in the 1760s. While writing, Ferber referred to the work of Janez Vajkard Valvazor Die Ehre dess Hertzogthmus Crain, which he complements in some parts.
Present use
The book is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is kept in the collection of library material (in analogue and digital form). It is stored in the vault, since it is unique material.
