Original use
Nicholas Pirnat was born on 10 December 1903 in Idrija. Nicholas Pirnat’s father was a non-classical school professor of Slavistics - Maximilian Pirnat and his mother was Ana Lapajne from a known family from Idrija, who were trading with lace. He graduated from the Idrija Secondary School of Natural Sciences in 1921. After studying at the Art Academy in Zagreb, he improved his knowledge in Paris. Initially, he worked as an illustrator for various journals. Then he started to create and exhibit in many different techniques in a larger scope. The statue of the Idrija miner was made for the exhibition of photographs and statues of Slovenian artists, which was held in the Jakopič Pavilion in Ljubljana, from 3–17 September 1933. Nikolaj Pirnat’s Idrija Miner was a later inspiration for Tone Kralj, for the statue "Miner’s departure to the partisans" (LZ-223), which is placed in the main city square.
