The skein holder is brown stained. Its stand is made of four battens and two bearers, which are connected on the top with a batten. The supporting battens have holes and two skein holders which rotate around the planed axels. Each skein holder has two round sides and seven battens in between.

Length 166 cm, width 18.5 cm, handle thickness 2–3 cm, poker thickness 8.5 cm.

The skein holder was a technical device for winding and unwinding yarn.

The skein holder is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is a part of the ethnological collection of Idrija Municipal Museum. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum display exhibition in the Idrija Miner's House. It can also be used for different types of mercury heritage promotions. The items displayed in the Idrija Miner’s House take the visitors to the lives and residential code of mining families in Idrija in housing from the first half of the 20th century.

It was restored for the purpose of the museum exhibition in 2002. Therefore, no additional interventions are necessary. Security of the premises is taken care of.
