Description
Short description
The peel is composed of two parts, namely of a rough wooden handle and a forged iron part. This part is mounted on the handle and hammered with a nail. The lower part of the handle is severely burned. The peel has two curved horns at the end, shaped as a letter “U”.

Original use
The peel was one of the kitchen and house utensils. It was used for preparation of the fire in the oven and putting the pots in and taking them out of the oven. In some farm houses in the surroundings of Idrija, they still use the peel as a utensil for burning in bread ovens.
Present use
The peel is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is a part of the ethnological collection. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum exhibition of the Idrija Municipal Museum in the Idrija Miner's House. They can also be used for different types of mercury heritage promotions. The items displayed in the Idrija Miner’s House take the visitors to the lives and residential code of mining families in Idrija in housing from the first half of the 20th century.

STATE OF CONSERVATION
History of conservation:
It was restored for the purpose of the museum exhibition in 2002. Therefore, no additional interventions are necessary. Security of the premises is taken care of.
