Description

Short description
The kneader is made from roughly processed boards, which are dark stained on the outer side. The side surfaces lean outward and are joined together with a carved cogwheel (“dove tail”). The bottom is hammered with nails.

Length 62 cm, width 39 cm, height 22 cm.

Original use
The kneader was primarily for kneading dough. Unlike the “farm” kneaders, this one was an mostly independent wooden bowl/sink and was not part of the table.
Present use
The kneader is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is a part of the ethnological collection of Idrija Municipal Museum. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum display exhibition in the Idrija Miner's House. It can also be used for different types of mercury heritage promotions. The items displayed in the Idrija Miner’s House take the visitors to the lives and residential code of mining families in Idrija in housing from the first half of the 20th century.

STATE OF CONSERVATION

History of conservation:
It was restored for the purpose of the museum exhibition in 2002. Therefore, no additional interventions are necessary. Security of the premises is taken care of.
