The box for the dominoes is handmade. There are 46 wooden dominoes. The dots on them are burned into the wood.

Miners were always sociable and liked to gather in the houses for conversation and playing different social games. In addition to the “volkalca” game and bingo, dominoes was one the most popular social games. They also like to entertain themselves by playing cards. Especially in winter time, more than 20 neighbours and friends gathered in the Idrija Miner’s house, each time in someone else’s house. In the meantime, the women and girls of the Idrija mining families were lacemaking. This way, they were also saving on lighting.

The box of dominoes is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is a part of the ethnological collection of Idrija Municipal Museum. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum display exhibition in the Idrija Miner's House. It can also be used for different types of mercury heritage promotions. The items displayed in the Idrija Miner’s House take the visitors to the lives and residential code of mining families in Idrija in housing from the first half of the 20th century.

It was restored for the purpose of the museum exhibition in 2002. Therefore, no additional interventions are necessary. Security of the premises is taken care of.
