Description
Short description
The wall mirror is framed with a curved and brown stained frame. The latter consists of several battens and is additionally decorated on both top edges. Its top middle part was also rounded and has leafy decoration carved on top. The mirror has a slight break on all four sides and is sanded on the edges.

Original use
The mirror was one of the items in the “house” (living areas), which served as a decoration of the living area. They used it to check their appearance before leaving the apartment. The decorated frame was very common decorative furniture item of the time. In their free time, many miners were involved with supplementary activities, also with domestic trades. Among them, there were also many self-taught carvers. In Idrija and its surroundings, a wide range of domestic trades developed over the centuries – smithery, carpentry, shoemaking, rope-making, producing linen, charcoal burning, quarrying, nailery in Vojsko and barrel-making in Črni Vrh. Women and girls were involved in lacemaking.
Present use
The mirror with the carved frame is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is a part of the ethnological collection of Idrija Municipal Museum. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum display exhibition in the Idrija Miner's House. It can also be used for different types of mercury heritage promotions. The items displayed in the Idrija Miner’s House take the visitors to the lives and residential code of mining families in Idrija in housing from the first half of the 20th century.

History of conservation:
A conservation procedure was performed on the object for the needs of the museum exhibition. Therefore, no additional interventions are necessary. Security of the premises is taken care of.
