The wooden bench with a backrest – “kanape” is brown and has four legs curved outwards (quadrangular). Between the legs are connective panels. It has a rectangular and vertically designed backrest, supporting side walls are curved outwards. The backrest and sides are made of broader top and narrower bottom battens, with vertical “connectives” in between. All the connectives, with the exception of the middle one on the backrest, are curved outwards.

The settee was also a part of the modest basic furniture of the Idrija Miner’s houses (bread oven, chest, table and bed) at the turn of 20th century. The settee was previously used by the wealthier citizens, who later discarded it. Mining families used it for sitting and it was usually placed by the wall and next to the dining table. In the evenings, one of the children slept on it (usually 3–5). Many miners or their wives earned the settees while working for reputable families, while some had a simpler version of it made by a carpenter.

The settee is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is a part of the ethnological collection of Idrija Municipal Museum. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum display exhibition in the Idrija Miner's House. It can also be used for different types of mercury heritage promotions. The items displayed in the Idrija Miner’s House take the visitors to the lives and residential code of mining families in Idrija in housing from the first half of the 20th century.

It was restored for the purpose of the museum exhibition in 2002. Therefore, no additional interventions are necessary. Security of the premises is taken care of.
