Original use
The Sokol gymnastics society was established in Idrija in 1897. The liberal-oriented mining workers were also accepted in the Sokol Society, since the leading class in the town and in the mine was German. The society’s headquarters, whose members were constantly changing, was “At the Black Eagle” (“Pri črnem orlu”). The Mine Administration enabled the training sessions of the society in the gym of the Folk School. In 1910, the Slovenian Sokol Association was reorganised. The Idrija “Župa”, the connection between the umbrella association and the societies, became one of seven such organisations in Slovenian territory. In addition to the prescribed clothing and symbols, a part of the society’s image was also the described emblem. In their performances they also cooperated with other societies (e.g. the Mine Band). After the Italian occupation, the society’s operation was made difficult. Idrija Sokol Society as “Telovadno društvo Idrija” (Idrija Gymnast Society) was closed on 15 October 1926.
