Original use
The traditional miner’s flag is green and black. The green colour symbolises hope to return from the mine’s pit alive and the black colour represent the eternal darkness and the underground’s gloominess. The traditional miner’s flag was especially used after the World War II at celebrations of major mining holidays, such as: 22 June, St Achatius – one of the miners’ patrons; 1 May – International Labour Day; 3 July, Miners’ Day, introduced during the period of Yugoslavia as a reminder of a five day long hunger strike, started by miners from Zasavje on 3 July 1934.
