Original use
The stamp was used for sealing in the Idrija cinnabar factory. Considering that its coat-of-arms also contains a double-headed eagle, we can place it in the period of Austro-Hungarian dualism, between the years 1867 and 1918. It is known that the new cinnabar factory was built in Idrija in 1880, within the smelting plant complex (on the right Idrijca River riverbed). They stopped producing cinnabar in 1914/1915.
Present use
The stamp is being preserved, secured and presented as an important monument of Idrija mining heritage with exceptional universal values. It is a part of the mining collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum exhibition “Five Centuries of the Mercury Mine and the Town of Idrija”. It can also be used for different types of mercury heritage promotions.
