Original use
The blade was used for shaping shingles. The craftsman was hitting the top side of the blade and shaped the boards. These were usually made from pine, fir and larch wood. The shaped boards (shingles) were used for covering houses, whereby the right shaping (not sawing) of the boards allow greater durability and longer life of the roof. Shingle manufacturers needed to be careful while choosing the right wood for shingle production, namely the growth and the position of the trees. In Idrija, most of the houses, especially miners’ ones, were covered with shingles. Covering houses with shingles was established in the entire Alpine world.
