Original use
The pickaxe was used for moving logs or larger pieces of wood. It was used in the forests in the surroundings of Idrija, as well as in the auxiliary plants or on-site in the pit of the Idrija Mercury Mine.
Present use
The described object is being preserved, secured and presented as important technical mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is a part of the mining collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum exhibition “Five Centuries of the Mercury Mine and the Town of Idrija”. It can also be used for different types of mercury heritage promotions.

History of conservation:
The object was restored in the Goriška Museum workshop. Additional interventions are not necessary. Security of the premises is ensured.
