Description

Short description
The collection consists of two massive and thick vessels of cylindrical shape. They have a round stand at the bottom. The vessels are narrow at the bottom and expand steadily towards the top.

Original use
The described objects were used to pour the obtained mercury at the bottom of the furnace in Smelting Plant of the Idrija Mercury Mine. It is not precisely known in which of the furnaces the described vessels were used. According to the known data, they could have been used in several furnaces: Spanish furnaces (1750–1860); Idrian – Leithner's, Francis’s, Leopold’s (1787–1870); flame furnaces with horizontal access, shaft furnaces and muffle furnaces (1842–1961) or Čermak-Špirek reverberatory furnace (1886–1974).
