Short description
Miners’ brass band uniform is dark grey. The set includes a jacket, trousers and a hat. A patch with a lyre, a music or brass band symbol, is on the jacket’s collar and in the middle of the hat. The hat’s edge is decorated with a knitted decoration.

Original use
A member of the Idrija Miners’ Brass Band wore the uniform at public events. This society was established in 1665 and according to the World Association for Symphonic Bands and Ensembles’ data it is the oldest brass band in Europe, and probably in the world as well. Its rich history has witnessed many historic events and it owes its centuries-old existence to the support of the Idrija Mercury Mine, local community and lately also to other sponsors. Despite short operation interruptions due to financial, organisational, personnel and spatial problems, the brass band tradition is preserved until today.
Present use
The brass band uniform is being preserved, secured and presented as an important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. Brass band activity is an important social activity for Idrija, its identity and recognisability. Amateur and professional musicians, who play in the brass band for different occasions, represent a special form of music creations and socialising. The uniform is a part of the historical collection of Idrija Municipal Museum. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum exhibition “Five Centuries of the Mercury Mine and the Town of Idrija”. It can also be used for different types of mercury heritage promotions.
