Original use
The uniforms have had an important role in the Idrija society and social life. They could use them for many purposes. Mining officials usually wore the uniforms at work. The festive uniforms were worn mainly on various religious, labour and national holidays and events. The mining officials’ uniforms differed from the uniforms of other mining worker and other Idrija residents by its design, better material quality and different accessories (hat, rod). Up until 1955, when the working uniforms enter into force, the miners wore its own clothes when going to or leaving work in the pit. Unlike the officials, the miners only wore the uniforms a few times a year, at major holidays. The number of buttons (28) on the jacket is associated with miners’ patron St Barbara’s age, at the time of her death.
