The pneumatic filling device consists of three connected parts. The top part is composed of the funnel-shaped entrance and the flexible cover, through which the filling material enters the large, middle vessel. The bottom part is a circular bracket of the device, attached to the middle part of the device with three legs. A lever for releasing compressed air is installed in the funnel part of the device. The larger vessel is narrowed into a channel, on which the steel pipe is attached. A pipe for compressed air is attached to the middle vessel.

The device diameter is 80 cm, pipe diameter is 20 cm, height is 175 cm.

The pneumatic filling device was placed under the chute from the shaft, in which the filling material was poured (tailings, burned ore, gravel or sand). Into the steel pipes, a few metres after the device, the conduit for the liquid cement mixture was attached. The compressed air pushed the filling material mixed with liquid cement mixture through the steel pipes (individual pipe was 3m long and weight approximately 100 kg) for more than 100 m into the tunnels, which needed to be filled. A blown backfill caused a better quality of backfilling of the tunnels than was possible with manual backfilling. Two types of pneumatic filling device were used in the Idrija pit: the pneumatic filling device with interrupted backfilling and the pneumatic filling device with continuous backfilling (so called Brieden).

The pneumatic filling device is being preserved, secured and presented as an important monument of Idrija technical mining heritage with exceptional universal values. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum display Anthony's Main Road. The device is a part of the presentation that represents the entire story of mining in the Idrija Mercury Mine and with the related work process and covering of the mining fields .

The object is well preserved. It was restored for the purpose of the museum display. Additional interventions are not necessary. Security of the premises is ensured.
