Short description
Type JW 20 narrow gauge locomotive, suitable for 500 m wide tracks, has a double-cylinder diesel drive engine (no. Nr. 7894). The latter has the following operating characteristics: power 14.71 kW (20 HP) and 1,500 RPM. Drive engine and gearbox are attached to the frame, with both axles mounted in.

Original use
In 1960, the mine bought five diesel locomotives for burnt ore transportation in the smelting plant. The engine powered both wheel axles through the gearbox and both chains. Originally, leaf springs were installed by the wheels, but they were not functional and were replaced with screw springs. All controls and a brake are in the cabin, whence the driver managed the locomotive. Then, these locomotives transported the burnt ore and poured it onto the Idrijca River riverside. Due to the constant flushing of mercury residues in the burnt ore, we can steel notice great negative effect in the environment.
Present use
The described object is being preserved, secured and presented as an important monument of Idrija technical mining heritage with exceptional universal values. It is a part of the Idrija Municipal Museum collection “Mining machines and devices”. Only one (no. 2) of originally five diesel locomotives has been preserved until today. The latter is restored and ready for use. The exhibition of restored mine locomotives has been open since 20 June 2000 on. Within the exhibition, the described diesel locomotive from 1960 is on display. The small Jenbach diesel locomotives were used in Slovenia as well as in other European countries, especially in Austria. A lot of them are preserved primarily in private collections and museums, such as in the FIM museum in Freiland, Flashenzug railway in Stainz, the mining museum in Graz and elsewhere.

During the restoration process in the year 2000, all parts of the locomotive were disassembled. The surfaces were cleaned with a sandblasting process and protected with foundation and top paint. Therefore, no additional interventions are necessary. Security of the premises is ensured.
