Description

Short description
The protective mask covers the entire face. It has the following components: a black rubber shield for nose and mouth, eyes are protected with lenses. It is fastened with head straps. The filter is round and brown. The manufacturer’s recommendation for use contains an inscription: “Štiti od para, organskih rastvarača kao: benzol, aceton, alkoholi, etri, ugljen-disulfid, benzin i sl”.

Length 24 cm, width 14 cm, height 20 cm.

Second half of the 20th century.

Original use
The protective mask was used in the last period of mercury production. It protected miners against poisoning with different chemicals.
Present use
The protective mask is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. It is a part of the mining collection of the Idrija Municipal Museum. It is stored in the depot. It may be used for temporary museum exhibitions and various forms of promotion mercury heritage.

The Pit and the Smelting Plant of the Idrija Mercury Mine.

History of conservation:
The object is appropriately preserved. Therefore, no additional interventions are necessary. Security of the premises is ensured.
