Original use
The “trigl” was initially wooden and later metal. Along with the “krutca”, it served for collecting the ore from the ground and pouring it into the “trugca” pit cart. Ten to twelve trigls were required to fill the “trugca” pit cart (300 kg). It was also used for throwing the packing material – pit tailings, burned ore, gravel or sand. After the excavation ended, the pit shafts needed to be filled with material.
Present use
The “trigl” is being preserved, secured and presented as an important monument of Idrija technical mining heritage with exceptional universal values. It is a part of the CUDHg mining collection. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum display Anthony's Main Road. It is a part of the presentation that represents the entire story of mining in the Idrija Mercury Mine. Together with the “krutca” (a tool resembling a large hoe), “trugca” pit cart and carbide lamp it represents manual ore excavation, which was in force in the Idrija Mercury Mine at the beginning of the 20th century.
