Useful storage on the 17th level of the Kropač mining field is a part of a former active stope, which is filled from this part on. The tunnel is not support in this part. The entrance door is locked with a padlock. At the entrance, at the right side of the chamber is a smaller chamber with dimensions 0.5 m x 0.5 m x 0.5 m with iron doors and a padlock. The chamber is equipped with shelves for storage. A few empty items of packaging, a small and large leather bag, a lighter (fuse) and ohmmeter are placed on the shelves.

Idrija Mercury Mine

The main storage of explosives was set on the main level IV of the Joseph's Shaft. For safety in case of explosion, the access to chambers with different types of explosives and detonators (lighters) was built in the shape of a labyrinth with armoured-concrete walls and several iron doors in between. For daily mining needs the Idrija Mercury Mine had several smaller storage rooms with explosives (auxiliary warehouses of explosives and convenient storage rooms), which were distributed based on the needs and locations of the sites. A smaller warehouse provided explosive for several main levels. Detonators and explosives were separately kept and transported from the warehouse to sites (the sapper and the assistant). Only the trained miners (the shooters or the sappers) were allowed to handle the explosives. Idrija Mercury Mine organised an educational course for them since 1948 (the first course was attended by 24 people). Before 1956, the Idrija Mercury Mine Idrija Mercury Mine kept the explosives for the blasting purposes in the pit in the warehouses (called “purflturni”) in the areas next to the entrance shafts.

The storage of explosives coin is being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. Visitors can view it within the permanent museum display Anthony's Main Road. The storage of explosives is a part of the presentation, which represents a way of storing explosives and with that related occupational safety in the mine and the handling of the explosive material.
