The wooden trapeze supports were additionally reinforced wooden rectangular supports. They consists of vertical, horizontal and diagonal beams. Vertical beams are fixed into the ground up to approximately 1 m. Horizontal beams (props) are laid on top of the vertical beams and also link the wooden trapeze supports. From the horizontal beams, the beams, which are joined with a short ceiling joist with adjusted width, rise diagonally towards the top of the tunnel. Under the ceiling, the shorter connecting ceiling joists are also interconnected with a horizontal beam. The substructure contacts are reinforced with wooden wedges. The wooden trapeze supports are located on level I/17 of the Kropáč mining field. The described setup contains 14 individual connected elements.

Idrija Mercury Mine

In most cases, wood (pine, fir and acacia) was used to support the tunnels in the Idrija ore deposit. A wooden trapeze supports was used in areas with geomechanically unstable rocks (particularly in carbon slate tracks) or in areas with tectonically porous rock tracks. It served as additional support for reinforcing the basic wooden rectangular supports. Wooden trapeze supports are the precedent of the round steel supports.

The wooden trapeze supports are being preserved, secured and presented as important mining heritage of Idrija with exceptional universal values. Visitors can view it within the permanent display of the museum part of the mine Anthony's Main Road on level I/17 of the Kropáč mining field. It presents the typical way of supporting entrance tunnels of the Idrija Mercury Mine. Due to the diverse geological structure of the ore deposit and different geomechanical hardness of rock, different support structures were used in the mine.

The wooden trapeze supports are well preserved and maintained. Security of the premises is ensured. Replacement of wooden parts is planned on average every five to ten years.
