Description
Short description
On the sample in the shape of a cube, we can observe the cross sections of the erosion surfaces in Upper Anisian dolomite, caused by the second erosion period. The characteristic, strongly pyritised kaolinic sandstone is positioned on the eroded Anisian dolomite. Morphological diverse erosional surface is nicely seen on the dolomite. The filling of a smaller erosional pocket in the dolomite was visible on one side. The sample is transected and polished. Four specimens from the same sample also belong to this sample.

Original use
After the first erosion period, the tectonic conditions temporarily settled down. The already partly formed Idrija Mid-Triassic tectonic rift and its wider surroundings was flooded by shallow continental shelf sea in the Upper Anisian. In the beginning of Ladinian period, the tectonic activities, accompanied with volcanic eruption, were aroused. The edges of the Idrija Mid-Triassic tectonic rift were raised above the sea level once again. Very soon, the Idrija tectonic rift was flooded with shallow water again. The wetland was formed, in which the unusual kaolinic rocks, typical for Idrija ore deposit were formed from volcanic material. These were deposited directly on the eroded Upper Anisian dolomite, or directly on Paleozoic rocks.
Present use
The described specimen is being preserved, secured and presented as important natural heritage of Idrija ore deposit with exceptional universal values. It represents a unique soil “archive”, as the sample was excavated in Idrija ore deposit and also stored. The specimen is one of the most important structural phenomena of Idrija tectonic system. It is a part of the thematic collection “Samples of structural and tectonic characteristics of Idrija ore deposit” of the Mine Geological Collection, displayed in the CUDHg administrative premises, as a part of the Francis’ shaft.
The sample is appropriately preserved. Additional interventions are not necessary. Security of the premises is taken care of.
