This panel describes the technological advance that the xabeca furnaces (Arab furnaces) represented in the 10th century AD and the diverse uses of mercury: vermillion for ornamental use, mercury chloride (solimán) for leather tanning and mercury (quicksilver) for skin conditions and decoration of houses and palaces and, in addition, the progress in alchemical processes using mercury as a basic product.
