Short description
"This museum was inaugurated in 2008, coinciding with the hundred-year anniversary of the creation of the “Children of the Workers” (Hijos de Obreros) Pre-School and Primary Education School where it is located. It is dedicated to education in Almadén and was created thanks to the work of the superintendent of the mines Waldo Ferrer, thereby ensuring that a good number of children and workers from the age-old mines could be integrated into the educated world, coming out of backwardness and illiteracy.
As a prelude to the museum, in its entrance hall, a very unique scene is on display, an old table with a physical map of Spain from the 1950s. This scenery is meant to make visitors participate in a special moment, that of taking a photograph that reminds them that they are in a school steeped in history, and that they will soon be able to confirm this feeling in the museum rooms that open after a large mural next to the entrance door.
The Museum is divided into two halls. In the first of them, the route follows the storyline of the class materials, the teaching resources, the most interesting events experienced at the School, etc. These make the viewers actively participate in the route that covers the history of the nearby educational centre, which takes them back to their childhood and the memories of their elders.
The second hall reproduces a classroom from the 1960s seen through a current classroom. The tour around it culminates with the projection of an audiovisual of just 15 minutes, where D. Quixote and Sancho figuratively bring visitors closer to these lands to tell the story of this hundred-year-old school. Hundreds of photographs, sounds, voices and images generate a special moment, along with the visualisation that leaves no one indifferent. Be sure to visit this museum, a small jewel full of sensations and memories, which show us that education is one of the greatest values that human beings have."
