Description
Short description
"When the Castillo mine was deepened, at the beginning of the 18th century, a winch was installed to extract the ore through the San Andrés shaft. This installation consisted of a vertical winch that was anchored in the hole excavated for this purpose and around which a rope was wound. The drum was moved by horses and the cables passed through pulleys and held the slabs with ore.
To move the baritel, eight mules were needed at the same time and they were switched every three hours. The operation was slow and expensive and about 40 tons could be extracted in twelve hours.
