Description
Short description
"In processes in the previous centuries, the slag had a much higher mercury content than it does today because the temperatures used were lower and it was usually mixed with ore and then subjected to roasting again.
The solid residue of the roasting process that takes place in ovens is collected from the bottom on conveyor belts that take it to metal hoppers known as “pots”.
In these hoppers, the slag containing 60% sulfur, 7% iron and about 108ppm of mercury are cooled inside the hoppers by means of water showers.
The water vapour produced is conducted through pipes to the outside and the slag, once cooled, is discharged from the bottom and transported to the dumps by truck
