Short description
The Castro hoist is a shaft that connects the mining activities with the outside world. In its lower part, the drainage is recreated using zacas, which were leather bags capable of transporting between 50 and 100 litres of water. The miner who worked at the bottom of the shaft filling the bag was called a charquero. In the upper part of the shaft were the pullers who moved the hoist by hand and the attenuator who was in charge of emptying the zaca.
