Description
Short description
"The ore is the part of the mining lode that is of interest
for exploitation, since it is made of the mineral
from which the metal is extracted. In the case of mercury, its ore is almost
exclusively cinnabar, a reddish mineral that is a
combination of sulfur and mercury and, if pure,
contains up to 85% of metal.
In this case, the showcase displays: cinnabar and pyrite (El Entredicho mine), bulk cinnabar (La Concepción Nueva mine), probe drilling samples (pyrite and cinnabar, Almadén mine), cinnabar and baryte (Usagre mine, Badajoz), cinnabar and stibnite mine (Khirijistan mine), cinnabar and calcite (La Tana mine, León) and cinnabar in silica-carbonate rock (New Almaden, USA)."
