Description

Short description
"The Almadén deposit was formed about 370 million years ago, when the region was covered by the sea. The eruption of a volcano lifted a combination of mercury and sulfur from the interior of the earth, which led to the mineralisation of cinnabar.
About 300 million years ago, the ensemble of rocks folded and fractured until it occupied the vertical position that the site currently presents.
This showcase exhibits samples of: wall slate, basaltic sill, San Pedro cinnabar, intermediate slate, intermediate quartzite, San Francisco cinnabar, San Nicolás cinnabar, graphite slate, roof lava, frailesca (volcanic tuff)
