The process of amalgamation in barrels consisted of carrying out the amalgamation in barrels, inside which a few blades were turning and stirring the mixture of water, salt and mercury, which allowed saving time and mercury, instead requiring complex and expensive mechanical equipment. This amalgamation system was developed in Germany at the end of the 18th century.
