"This experiment demonstrates the following:
A magnet has been placed in the centre of the mercury container. If we press the button, we will transmit current to the rod, establishing a magnetic field, which causes the circular movement of the rod around the magnet.
Faraday knew that an electric current exerts a force on a magnetic field close to it and thought that this force could be harnessed to make a conducting wire rotate around a fixed magnetic field.
The first electric motor in history capable of transforming electrical energy into kinetic energy worked thanks to mercury."
