"The model shows a geological cross-section of the Almadén mine and the town on the surface above it.
Almadén has produced a third of all the mercury consumed by humanity, that is, about 276,000 tons of this metal, which can give us an idea of how extraordinary this deposit is.
The mines are state-owned and, since the earliest days, they have been the state’s most important mining company, on many occasions ensuring the economic solvency of the country and otherwise functioning as a guarantee."
