Short description
"The Almadén and Čermak-Špirek furnaces (used in Almadén between 1905 and 1954) represent the modern generation of furnaces, characterised by continuous loading, the possibility of regulation and improved condensation.
Almadén furnaces:
Intended for treatment of coarse minerals. The process has three phases:
1st – The ore mixed with coal is introduced into the upper part of the furnace through watertight hoppers.
2nd – From the hopper, the ore passes to the lower grill where it is roasted.
3rd – The mercury vapour rises and passes through a refrigerant coil that leads into the tank where the condensed mercury is collected.
Čermak-Špirek furnaces:
They are used to treat small-sized lumps of ore. The process has three phases:
1st – The ore passes through a moving grill that only allows the passage of fine material, called ""bacisco"".
2nd – Once in the furnace, the ore descends through a circuit of linked tiles, while the hot air from the furnace rises through the internal tubular spaces.
3rd – At the end of the path, the gases rise through tubes to the cooling ducts."
