"In this experiment we can observe a steel ball in each of the columns; if we press the button, we will verify that the ball sinks in oil and in water and that it floats on mercury.
Why does this happen? When an object has a lower density than the fluid in which it is immersed, it floats. In the opposite case, the object sinks.
The ball floats in the mercury because the density of steel is 8g/cm3; that is, less than that of mercury, which is 13.69g/cm3. In the case of water and oil, their densities are lower than that of steel, so the ball sinks in them."
